The HIStory of 5 Stones (in a nutshell)...
Five Stones Fellowship began as a small group of friends and family meeting at the home of our founding Pastor Ray Hill and his wife, Nanette. This Life Group met during the week for a meal, fellowship and discussions about Scripture. We had each decided to become great members for a local church of our choice, but couldn't seem to find a place to call home. After weeks of searching, visiting and praying, God revealed His vision to us. After a long weekend in Colorado attending basketball games and studying the Life of David, we returned to Lubbock with a dream of a new kind of church. There were many questions that needed to be answered. What would our congregation look like? Where would we meet? And when would we start? The Lord put a desire and passion for more than just starting a new church in Lubbock, but joining a group of people that desired freedom in their worship and a place that would be real, full of grace and hope. We have a burning desire to know Him more and wanted our church to walk in the anointing of God, as David did when he faced Goliath. We would utilize our experiences and take action to reach Lubbock, Texas for Jesus Christ. We wanted a casual atmosphere where church leadership could relate to the people that showed up each week. Our name came from the story of David and Goliath. If you read this story in 1 Samuel 17, you will find David humbly on his knees in the brook collecting five smooth stones. Never in his life was David so low but so powerful at the same time. At Five Stones, we approach the Lord with humility and allow Him to work His power through us. Thank you for visiting our site. We look forward to meeting you and getting to know your story.
Our Purpose
1. FELLOWSHIP "God wants us to be members of His family." 1 Peter 1:3 "He has given us the privilege of being born again, so that we are now members of God's own family." Ephesians 2:19 "You are members of God's very own family...and you belong in God's household with every other Christian." The Christian life is not a solo act. We are meant to live in a relationship with one another.
2. DISCIPLESHIP "God wants us to be models of His character." 1 Peter 2:21 "To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps." 1 Timothy 4:12 "Set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." Notice that maturity is not measured by one's learning but by one's lifestyle.
3. SERVICE "God wants us to be ministers of His grace." 1 Peter 4:10 "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in various forms." God intends for every believer to have a ministry. What's yours?
4. EVANGELISM "God wants us to be messengers of His love." 2 Corinthians 5:19-20 "God was in Christ, restoring the world to Himself, no longer countin men's sins against them but blotting them out. This is the wonderful message He has given us to tell others. We are Christ's ambassadors. God is using us to speak to you." We are to plead with unbelievers to receive the love He offers - to be reconciled to God.
5. WORSHIP "God wants us to be magnifiers of His name." Psalm 34:3 "O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together." Exodus 20:3 "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." We each have a personal responsibility to worship God.
